Exporting Citations from CrossFire to EndNote
We have prepared some tips on exporting citations from CrossFire into
EndNote, which might be of benefit.
Note that not all references have titles and abstracts. Exporting
only works if you have your results displayed as 'Citations' (as opposed
to 'Structures' or 'Reactions') and if you're using post-1980 citations.
Using the MDL defaults:
- Create a Hitset in Citation format
- Click Export Hits
- Select Procite/Endnote/Reference Manager
- Choose the references you wish to export
- Save the file as a .txt file in a directory of your choice
- Start Endnote
- Create a new library
- Click File then Import, and select the .txt file just created
- Select Reference Manager (RIS) as the Import Option
- Import
Changing settings to include abstracts:
- Create Hitset in citation format
- Click Export Hits
- Select Settings
- Select Procite/Endnote/Reference Manager
- Click Edit
- Next
- Next
- Click Select Facts to View
- Select Export to Endnote
- Edit
- On the left-hand side, expand Bibliographic Information
- Expand Abstract
- Highlight Abstract
- Copy to right-hand side using >>
- OK
- Apply
- Replace field names
- New
- Old name AB
- New name AB - (NB: there must be 2 spaces between AB
and the hyphen)
- OK
- OK
- Next
- Finish
- Yes to overwrite file when prompted
- Start Export
- Launch Endnote as before
Once you have done this, in future you can just use the Export function
as in the first set of instructions above ('Using the MDL defaults').
Note - rather than having to go
through the tiresome process of set up through the Export Wizard as above for both Beilstein and Gmelin, you
can fetch the updated export settings files
from http://www.mimas.ac.uk/crossfire/software/export/endnoteabsv7.zip and
(after unzipping them) copy the files Citations_Endnote_AE8.exs and Citations_Endnote_GM6.exs into the \Program Files\MDL CrossFire Commander
7.0\group\export\
directory of your installation and the files Endnote_AE8.udf and Endnote_GM6.udf into the \Program Files\MDL CrossFire Commander 7.0\group\view directory, replacing the existing files of the same name.
