MIMAS is pleased to announce the release of FirePower, the new web-based learning program to help with use of CrossFire Beilstein and Gmelin.
FirePower will enable new and existing CrossFire users to learn to use basic and advanced features of both the Beilstein and Gmelin databases at their own pace in their own time. FirePower is designed to supplement the face-to-face training courses delivered by MIMAS to the UK higher education community. It is freely available to members of UK academic institutions and Research Councils, and its use does not require the user's institution to hold a CrossFire licence.
FirePower can be accessed through the MIMAS CrossFire web pages at www.mimas.ac.uk/crossfire/firepower. A valid Athens username and password is required.
FirePower has been developed with funding from the JISC as part of its programme of enhancing JISC services for learning and teaching, through a collaboration between MIMAS, UMIST Chemistry Department and the John Rylands University Library of Manchester.
The CrossFire Beilstein and Gmelin databases, produced by MDL Information Systems, are an essential resource for teaching and research in chemistry and related disciplines. They are available online to UK academic institutions through a CHEST site licence Agreement (renewal of which beyond 2001 will be announced shortly). For details see www.mimas.ac.uk/crossfire
If you experience any problems with FirePower, please contact the MIMAS helpdesk at crossfire@mimas.ac.uk
